ABSTRACT

40% of the world gas reserves are located in in the Middle East, of which most contain high amounts of corrosive gases H2S and CO2, this with other environmental factors exerts stress on metallic and nonmetallic materials. For Baker Hughes to address these challenges, one answer was to establish local competencies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a H2S lab and materials science focused team, ultimately targeting the reduction of total expense of corrosion, and to tap into the research capabilities and expertise available in the ecosystem. H2S gas is a major health and safety challenge to deal with, as it is a lethal, flammable, corrosive. The analysis to design the lab was supported by methods of Asset Integrity Risk Management looking on barriers, process, and industry standards. The human factor was considered to ensure competency, mindset & culture. Among others, OSHA standards were followed to develop the Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) and respiratory protection program and Emergency Response and Operations Plan (EROP). An unexpected challenge arose during the COVID-19 pandemic where measures were taken to limit infection while maintaining lab operation. The lab started operation with a narrow scope to focus on critical lab operational skill development, successive new competencies and workflows are added following a Management of Change (MOC) process. Current developments leverage the labs growing competence to address arising challenges on ultra-high H2S, CO2 for CCUS, and hydrogen for the energy transaction. ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Twin anemia polycythemia sequence is a rare complication in monochorionic twin pregnancy. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a case of dichorionic twin pregnancy presenting with suspected twin anemia polycythemia sequence. A 31-year-old White female, on her third pregnancy, had a routine ultrasound scan at 12 weeks gestation, which demonstrated a dichorionic twin pregnancy with one placenta located in the anterior wall and the other in the posterior wall of the uterus. At 21 weeks, a scan demonstrated a 24% growth discordance between the two fetuses with normal Doppler studies and amniotic fluid. At 27 weeks, one twin showed signs of anemia and the other polycythemia; the fetal middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity was high in the anemic fetus and low in the polycythemic twin (1.8 and 0.5 multiples of the median). An intrauterine blood transfusion was carried out and this increased the fetal hemoglobin concentration in the anemic twin from 3.5 to 12.5 g/dL. At 29 weeks, delivery by cesarean section was carried out because of evidence from middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity of recurrence of anemia in one twin and worsening polycythemia in the co-twin; at birth the hemoglobin concentrations were 5.6 and 24.9 g/dL, respectively. Histopathological examination confirmed dichorionicity with no communicating vessels between the two placentas. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first case of twin anemia polycythemia sequence in a dichorionic, diamniotic twin pregnancy where intrauterine blood transfusion was used to prolong the pregnancy by almost 2 weeks in a "twin anemia polycythemia sequence-like" setting.

ABSTRACT

Systematic reviews have shown a prevalence close to 20% of gastrointestinal symptoms in COVID-19 positive patients, with nearly 40% of patients shedding viral RNA in their faeces, even if it may not be infectious, possibly because of inactivation by colonic fluid.According to current evidence, this virus is primarily transmitted by respiratory droplets and contact routes, including contaminated surfaces. The virus is quite stable on stainless steel, being detected up to 48-72 hours after application. Therefore, some individuals can be infected touching common contaminated surfaces, such as bathroom taps. Taps can be underestimated critical points in the transmission chain of the infection. Indeed, just by turning the knob, people leave germs on it, especially after coughing over their hands, sneezing, and/or blowing their nose. After handwashing with soap, user take back their germs when turning the knob. Paradoxically, the following user collects the germs back on his/her fingers by implementing a preventive measure, maybe before putting food into the mouth or wearing contact lenses.The Italian National Institute of Health recommends to clean and disinfect high-touched surfaces, but it is unrealistic and inefficient to do so after each tap use. As an alternative, new toilets should install long elbow-levers - or at least short levers - provided that people are educated to close them with the forearm or the side of the hand. This is already a standard measure in hospitals, but it is particularly important also in high-risk communities, such as retirement homes and prisons. It would be important also in schools, in workplaces, and even in families, contributing to the prevention both of orofaecal and respiratory infections.In the meantime, people should be educated to close existing knobs with disposable paper towel wipes or with toilet paper sheets.

ABSTRACT

The prevalence of teen smokers has increased during the Covid-19 pandemic. Smoking behavior occurs due to exposure to advertising and the promotion of cigarettes. This quantitative research was conducted using cross-sectional approach. The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between advertising exposure and cigarette promotion on adolescent smoking behavior in Malang Regency during the pandemic using the chi-square test. Random sampling on students from several high schools or equal degree in the Kepanjen District was done with a total of 145 respondents. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between age, types of cigarette advertising media at the point of sale, outdoor media, social media, internet, and newspapers or magazines by adolescent smoking behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic (p-value > 0.05). Exposure to cigarette advertisements on television, total exposure to cigarette advertisements, cigarette promotion, and gender had a significant relationship with adolescent smoking behavior during the pandemic (p value < 0.05). Adolescents are quite highly exposed to the various types of advertisements and promotions of cigarettes that can influence increased smoking behavior during the pandemic. ABSTRACT

The Ageing experience and increased longevity presents innovation opportunity for emergent technology, e.g., mobile and wearable. In turn, these technologies can enhance quality of life and independence as we age;however, they can also increase social inequalities and exclusion. The Covid-19 pandemic affected how we interact, communicate engage and interact with people and also technologies. People - across the generations were impacted and disrupted, motivating new behaviours in how they conducted everyday tasks and activities. Co-Design approaches have previously revealed successful collaborations between older adults, students, researchers, designers and other disciplines as a means to define unmet needs. Edinburgh Napier University provided funding to the PI (Principal Investigator) as a means to mobilise a 'Creative Cross-Education Team' (CCET) consisting of undergraduate students, research assistants (post-graduate researchers) and other staff colleagues of the University. The CCET worked with members from 'Tap into IT' (a local charity based in Edinburgh with a remit and focus on enhancing and enabling digital technology access for older adults). Two CoDesign workshops were conducted online titled 'Express' & 'Create.' The aim of these workshops was to explore, identify and define unmet needs/gaps expressed by older adult participants as a catalyst to create and generate future conceptual technology opportunities. The workshops were framed around Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs). The team were broken into groups whereby they were encouraged to collectively collaborate, Express and Create with the participants. This multi-generational and transdisciplinary approach created a democratized outlook where each contributor added value through expression, commentary and creativity. ABSTRACT

In 2021 COVID is still prevalent, thus remembering and practicing proper hygiene is a must for everybody. Practicing good hygiene is one of the ways we can protect ourselves and others from contracting the virus. The information and reminder of practicing good hygiene can be disseminated in many ways such as via flyers, social media post, news announcement and more. Today knowing that games are becoming mainstream it can be said that with the use of games, we can also spread awareness. Thus, this paper presents the development of the game ByeRus - is a 2D Android exclusive game where it reminds or promotes the practice of proper hygiene. This paper describes the game design, related literature, result and discussion, conclusion and recommendation. The game has been well received by the surveyors and it has achieved its purpose by spreading awareness and reminding people to practice proper hygiene. With this, games can give a positive impact back to society, though more research is required. © 2021 ACM.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To cope with the changing health care services in the era of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. We share the institutional framework for the management of anomalous fetuses requiring fetal intervention at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. To assess the success of our program during this time, we compare intraoperative outcomes of fetal interventions performed during the pandemic with the previous year. PATIENTS: We implemented our testing protocol on patients undergoing fetal intervention at our institution between March 1, and May 15, 2020, and we compared it with same period a year before. A total of 17 pregnant patients with anomalous fetuses who met criteria for fetal intervention were included: 8 from 2019 and 9 from 2020. METHODS: Our testing protocol was designed based on our institutional perinatal guidelines, surgical requirements from the infection prevention and control (IPAC) committee, and input from our fetal surgery team, with focus on urgency of procedure and maternal SARS-CoV-2 screening status. We compared the indications, types of procedures, maternal age, gestational age at procedure, type of anesthesia used, and duration of procedure for cases performed at our institution between March 1, 2020, and May 15, 2020, and for the same period in 2019. RESULTS: There were no statistically significant differences among the number of cases, indications, types of procedures, maternal age, gestational age, types of anesthesia, and duration of procedures (P values were all >.05) between the pre-SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in 2019 and the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in 2020. CONCLUSIONS: Adoption of new institutional protocols during SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, with appropriate screening and case selection, allows provision of necessary fetal intervention with maximal benefit to mother, fetus, and health care provider.
